How We Own Our Sinful Ways
Many of us have heard of the Romans Road to Salvation which is a selection of Bible verses from the book of Romans which presents the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.
We own our sinful ways by admitting our sin is a problem:
“As it is written, ‘There is no one righteous; no, not one.” ~Romans 3:10 WEB
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” ~Romans 3:23 WEB
We own and acknowledge the consequences of our sins:
“Therefore, as sin came into the world through one man, and death as the result of sin, so death spread to all men, [no one being able to stop it or to escape its power] because all men sinned.” ~Romans 5:12 AMPC
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ~Romans 6:23 AMP
God provides a solution:
“But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.” ~Romans 5:8 AMPC
We respond to God’s solution:
“If you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous – being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.” ~Romans 10:9-10 AMP
God chooses to own our sins, and gives us His redemptive, cleansing love in Jesus Christ in exchange:
“Whoever call on the name of the Lord [in prayer] will be saved.” ~Romans 10:13 AMP
“Therefore, since we have been justified [that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God] by faith, [let us grasp the fact that] we have peace with God [and the joy of reconciliation with Him] through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed).” ~Romans 5:1 AMP
“Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.” ~Romans 8:1 AMPC
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ~Romans 8:38-39 NASB [Petersen]
It is our own choice to pray and receive His gift of Love and Salvation.
When we own our sinful ways, and receive God’s astonishing gift of loving redemption through Jesus Christ, we find eternal life. Only faith in Jesus Christ can provide salvation!
We can pray, “God, I know that I have sinned against you and I am deserving of punishment. But [Your Son], Jesus Christ took the punishment I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With Your help, I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness – the gift of eternal life! Amen!’” [Got Questions]

Thank you for this reflection on all that Jesus has done for us! Happy Easter!
Happy Easter, Lesley!
I’d thought owning my sinful ways
was being proud of what I did,
but if I’d known what Scripture says,
I’d have gone and ran and hid
in a futile desperation
from consequences of my acts,
then wet with worried perspiration
would’ve had to turn to face the facts.
I had lived so very long
in ways that brought me into shame,
and ’twas now time to be strong,
take the guilt and take the blame,
and realize that, when all was said,
my debt in blood’s already paid.
We have much to rejoice in, Andrew, Jesus covering every sin under His blood being one reason to rejoice today!
love the Roman road clip…
