We can experience a broken heart after a loved one passes away, after a significant relationship ends, or from a traumatic event. Whatever the circumstance for our heart break, we can find comfort in the Lord’s Presence.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” ~Psalm 34:18 NASB
Sometimes, we find our spirit broken, our bones dry, and our spirit crushed.
“A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.” ~Proverbs 15:13 AMPC
“A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” ~Proverbs 17:22 AMPC
“A man’s spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?” ~Proverbs 18:14 WEB
The Lord says we can come to Him and He will take the burden of our sorrow, and in exchange, He will give us rest.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]”
“Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) your souls.”
“For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.” ~Matthew 11:28-30 AMPC
The Lord promises to: strengthen us, help us, heal our broken hearts, bind up our wounds, and be near to all who call upon Him.
“Do not fear [anything], for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, or power, of victory, of salvation].” ~Isaiah 41:10 AMP
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pains and their sorrows].” ~Psalms 147:3 AMP
“The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds. The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” ~Psalm 145:17-18 NASB
While upon this earth, we will experience heartbreak and sorrow, but the Lord said He would be with us, comfort us, and heal us. We can trust Him!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” ~Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB
One day, we will join Him in heaven where we will find the burden of sorrow removed. And our spirit, soul, and body will be made whole and we will experience the joy of His Presence forever.
“[God] will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away. And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true.’” ~Revelation 21:4-5 NASB

Yes, if course it broke my heart;
yes, it shook me to the core,
that you could not be a part
of my experience, any more.
Why could it not have been me,
or, perhaps, some unknown other
given to hell’s victory,
to leave you trembling, to recover
and in hope again to thrive
and rest and labour, play and serve
in sorrow, maybe, but alive
to earn that place that you deserve,
a love so deeply, boldlyheld,
proof of where the Spirit dwelled.
He is so kind to never leave us alone in life’s journey, Andrew.
