Tired and Weary? God Gives Strength
Tired? Weary? God promises to give new strength to those who wait upon Him.
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” ~Isaiah 40:28-31 NASB
The Tired Find Rest
God promises to give rest and renewal to each one of us when we come to Him. He promises to gently lead, guide in teach us His ways. His ways are not burdensome, cumbersome or overwhelming; rather, they are easy and light.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]” ~Matthew 11:28 AMPC
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.” ~Matthew 11:29-30 AMP
Strengthen Ourselves in the Lord
David faced many obstacles in his life. He grew tired of physical hardships, betrayals and delayed promises of God. Yet David new a key from his younger days as a shepherd boy, he knew how to strengthen himself in the Lord. David knew how to fellowship with God when alone with his sheep or surrounded by his enemies. He knew how to step into the ‘secret chamber of his heart’ and fellowship with God.
“David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” ~1 Samuel 30:6d AMPC
Whatever circumstances we find ourselves in today, may we choose to meet with the Living God in the secret place – for when we draw near to God, He is faithful to draw near to us. And whether we are physically tired, experiencing spiritual weariness or soul fatigue, we choose to come to You, O Lord, and find rest for our souls.

Christ is my source of strength! I truly don’t know how people parent or have a successful marriage without God.
Having God’s wisdom, love and strength makes all the difference, Barb!
Lisa – I love “we choose to meet with the Living God in the secret place – for when we draw near to God, He is faithful to draw near to us.” Thank you for this beautiful reminder of how good our God is.
He is so good and kind, Deborah! I’ve enjoyed reading your poems, thanks for the 28-Day writing journey.
The 1 Samuel 30 verse has always intrigued and encouraged me! I’m glad it was recorded in our Bible.
Yes, Lisa! I’m glad we can strengthen and encourage ourselves in the Lord!
How do people live without Christ?
They don’t really live, they survive.
I love your thoughts here, Lisa. God does provide the strength and rest we need, but, it is a choice. “And whether we are physically tired, experiencing spiritual weariness or soul fatigue, we choose to come to You, O Lord, and find rest for our souls.” The rest is freely offered, but we must choose to come. I know I struggle often in this area!
So true, Donna! He freely offers us rest, but we must respond to His invitation and enter into His rest in order to fully experience it.
I love this post, so encouraging. Thanks so much for sharing at the Exploring World Religions Linkup 18 so that we can better understand each other through our religion, faith, or beliefs. Pinned.
I’m so glad you were encouraged, Dee!
“Whatever circumstances we find ourselves in today, may we choose to meet with the Living God in the secret place – for when we draw near to God, He is faithful to draw near to us.” May we always choose wisely, choosing to meet with our Lord, who waits for us to come to Him. The choice lies with us.
So true, Joanne, we choose whether to draw near or to refuse His wooing.
