Work with Our Hands
Work is something we all do. We work in our home – meals, laundry, cleaning. We do volunteer work in our community. And we do work for pay, either as an employee, contractors or as creatives. This is work we do for ourselves or to serve others.
“All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the Lord weighs the motives. Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.” ~Proverbs 16:2-3 NASB
The Lord calls us to serve Him from our hearts whether we are working for pay or for self-satisfaction as a volunteer or as a creative. We want to serve with pure motives because ultimately we work for the One Who created us.
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.” Colossians 3:23-24 NASB
Work with His Word
The Lord calls us to handle His Words of Life with diligence so that we might be workmen equipped for His works of service.
“Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.” ~2 Timothy 2:15 WEB
“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” ~2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMPC
Work Has a Hidden Reward
Working for Christ has a hidden reward for us here (on earth) for the Lord promises to strengthen us.
“I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” ~Philippians 4:13 WEB
Working for Christ has a hidden reward for eternal purpose, hope, and destiny.
“For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you.” ~Jeremiah 29:11-12 AMP
I pray you will find peace, well-being, and a hope-filled future as the finished work of Christ.
Finished Work of Christ
When Jesus completed His work on earth, He said, “It is finished!” Jesus took our sins upon Himself and canceled the decrees against us – setting us free.
“Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the Lord, ‘though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; thought they are red like crimson, they will be as wool.” ~Isaiah 1:18 NASB
“And you who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our transgressions, having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross. [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].” ~Colossians 2:13-15 AMPC
When we step into the finished work of Christ, we allow Christ to live through us, making the work easy and light.
“I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” ~Galatians 2:20 AMP
“For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” ~Matthew 11:30 NASB

God better like what I am doing,
’cause there’s not much else I’m fit to do
while cancer’s working hard, ungluing
most of what I can offer you.
Can’t get out and teach the kids,
but that might well be for the best
for parents would be taking bids
to send me to Eternal Rest,
’cause I would teach youngsters the fun
of booby traps and well-thrown knives,
and a nice African caliber gun,
the recoil experience of their lives,
so maybe cancer gets ovation,
saving the cost of an assassination.
Oh, Andrew! So were you in the military? I know you make reference to things, but I’m not sure if it’s due to military training or as a hunter of animals or both.
Good reminders, Lisa.
