Picking a favorite chapter in the Bible can be difficult! There’s Psalm 23 about our Shepherd leading us; Psalm 91 for refusing fear now and in the future; and John 15 about the Vine, branch, and fruitfulness. Luke 2 might be the most popular during the Christmas season while John 19 might be the most popular around Easter.
A quick search of the internet brought some interesting findings of what others considered the most popular chapters in the Bible.
First Corinthians 13, known as the Love Chapter was found to be the most popular chapter by Bible Gateway. A close second was Psalm 23, known by its beginning phrase, ‘The Lord is my Shepherd.’ Other popular chapters were: Genesis 1, Romans 8, and Psalm 91. [AR]
Williams chose the most popular chapters in the Bible based on the most popular Bible stories: The Creation account, Jesus’ Birth in Luke 2, Daniel in the Lion’s Den, Joseph and his Coat of Many Colors, and The Ten Commandments rank among the top ten Bible story chapters. [PRW]
Wellman states the best chapter to read in difficult times is Romans 8 because it brings confidence in our calling. Romans 8 “gives us the knowledge that salvation is fully a work of God…He is the justifier Who justifies us.” [JW]
“Derek Thomas says Romans 8 is the greatest chapter in the whole Bible because it has almost everything. It begins with our justification by grace alone through faith alone in Christ, continues with sanctification, and the work of the Holy Spirit, speaks about our adopted sonship with the Father, the significance of suffering, the prospect of glory, the final redemption of our bodies, and the restoration of all creation.” [SF]
Willmington lists the 100 Most Important Chapters in the Bible from Genesis – Creation of all Things to Revelation – New Heaven and New Earth.
I do not believe we can find a consensus on the most popular chapter in the Bible because this personal choice can change from month to month, season by season, and year by year. I do have confidence in picking the most popular verse in the Bible.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” ~John 3:16 NASB

Don’t have to try to figure out
my fave book in the Bible.
No, I’ll say it with a shout,
though you may think me Papist, tribal,
but that don’t bother me at all,
not iota, not a whit,
’cause for long as I recall
I loved the good ol’ Book o’ Tobit.
It’s got an angel and a quest,
and a damsel in distress,
a hero who faces a test,
and to me, really the best
is the dog that’s by Tobiah’s side,
along for that most faithful ride.
Thanks, Andrew!
It’s interesting to think about what is the most popular chapter. I suppose 1 Corinthians 13 is used at so many weddings that it is a chapter most people have heard. Psalm 91 and Romans 8 are definitely two of my favourites.
You make a great point, Lesley, about 1 Corinthians 13 being used in weddings.
How fascinating, Lisa, to think of what might be a favorite chapter of the bible! Mine by far is Romans 8, having memorized the entire chapter, I don’t think a day goes by without me finding comfort and direction in passages from that chapter.
A close second for me is Psalm 103, which I also memorized.
It is fascinating to see how many people have picked the same passage as an all-time favorite, Donna.
I agree that its hard to pick the most important chapter as each person will weigh it out differently. FMF17
Yes, Annette, I think it changes through times and seasons of our lives.
Interesting post, Lisa.
I’m guessing 1 Corinthians 13 (the love chapter) ranked number one because it’s used in so many weddings.
I have heard Psalm 23 read at funerals and to people near death.
Im not sure what my favorite one is. It seems to change according to the season I’m in.
Yes, Sandra, my “go to” chapter changes according to the season I’m in. I was surprised by 1 Corinthians 13 as I would have thought Psalm 23, Psalm 91 or John 15 would be first. Yet, there are a lot of weddings every year, so that makes sense!
