Hope – 3 Simple Prayers to Guide Our Way

HOPE - 3 Prayers

Our hope is rooted in quiet confidence in God’s character, because He is Faithful to redeem and restore us to Himself. Our hope isn’t based on what He has done, is doing, or will do, but on who He is. Whether we see the manifestation of our hope now or later, our hope remains steadfast because we have Him.

Biblical hope isn’t pretending all is well when we are suffering, but it steadfastly stands on the principle that God is good and therefore our hearts can trust that He is able to work everything together for our good.

For example, God did not want Job to experience hardships, but He allowed Job to be severely tested and then restored Him. Likewise, God allows us to be tested, walks with us through the valley, strengthens us, and then restores us.

The God of Hope Anchors Us

Knowing who He is gives us hope, and this hope keeps us steadfast. Hope in God is the anchor our soul needs to keep us from being washed away in the storms of life.

“[We] take hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil, where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever.” ~Hebrews 6:18d-19b WEB

Jesus Christ is our “blessed hope” and the one who made a way for us before the Father.

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purity for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” ~Titus 2:11-14 NASB

Prayer of Hope in God’s Cleansing

Lord, we thank You that the Blood of Jesus Christ cleanses our hearts from sin and guilt, blots out our iniquities, and cleanses our evil conscience. We confess our sins before You, knowing You are faithful and just to forgive our sins through the blood of Christ.

Lord, we cry out to You to create a clean heart within us! We thank You for cleansing us from all unrighteousness based on Christ’s Righteousness. We thank You for giving us a new heart, putting a new spirit within us, and filling us afresh with Your Holy Spirit. Amen.

“The blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the Living God.” ~Hebrews 9:14 NASB

“Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” ~Hebrews 10:22 NASB

“Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit.” ~Psalm 51:9-12 NASB

“The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations]. If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude and lead ourselves astray, and the Truth [which the Gospel presents] is not in us [does not dwell in our hearts].”

“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].” ~1John 1:7c-9 AMPC

“I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.” ~Ezekiel 36:26 WEB

“If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” ~Romans 8:10-11 WEB

Prayer of Hope in God’s Calling

Lord, we thank You for hiding us in Jesus Christ. We confess, it is because of Christ that we stand before You asking for a spirit of wisdom, greater revelation of Jesus Christ, and enlightened hearts that we might understand all that You are, all that You have done, and all that You make us to be in Christ Jesus. Lord, we praise You that You do all things well! Amen.

“[May] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of His might which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and made Him to sit at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, authority, power, dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come.” ~Ephesians 1:17-21 WEB

Prayer of Hope in Our Service to God

Lord, we choose to exalt, praise, and honor You! We humble ourselves before You, desiring to honor You in our words and deeds. We present ourselves as living sacrifices before You, being transformed by Your Living Word that we might do Your good and perfect will, and be pleasing before You.

As your Beloved, we choose to walk in the freedom of Christ by the power of Your Holy Spirit, serving others in Your grace. And we know You, O Lord, will make us steadfast, immovable, strong, and courageous. Through Your strength, O Lord, we will serve others, not losing heart, not growing weary, not fainting.

Lord, in humility, we choose to serve You, and in Your Name, we serve others. Thank you, Lord, that You do not forget our work, nor our love, for our service to You is never in vain. Amen.

“Whatever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” ~Colossians 3:17 WEB

“And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” ~Colossians 2:23-24 WEB

“Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.” ~Romans 12:1-2 WEB

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” ~1 Corinthians 15:58 WEB

“[Live] as free people, [yet] without employing your freedom as a pretext for wickedness; but [live at all times] as servants of God.” ~1 Peter 2:16 AMPC

“As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.” ~1 Peter 4:10 WEB

“For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don’t use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servant to one another.” ~Galatians 5:13 WEB

“And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.” ~Galatians 6:9 AMPC

“Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not [merely] his own interests, but also each for the interests of others. Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus [Let Him be your example in humility].” ~Philippians 2:4-5 AMPC

“For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.” ~Hebrews 6:10 NASB

  1. Amen and Amen! Thank you, Lisa for the prayers here – they are a Monday Morning blessing. You write: “Biblical hope isn’t pretending all is well when we are suffering” – I am so glad God wants us to be honest with Him – that I do not have to pretend with Him. I rejoice this morning that in Christ I am a daughter of the Father, our King – and that He loves us so! What a Hallelujah reminder!

  2. Amen! Lisa, I love that each of our posts were focused on hope. “Our hope isn’t based on what He has done, is doing, or will do, but on who He is.” And He is our faithful God. Grateful you shared this!
