God Never Leaves One Set of Footprints in the Sand

God Promises to Never Leave Us

We are not alone for God said He will never leave us.

“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” ~Psalm 118:6 AMPC

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” ~Isaiah 41:10 NASB

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.” ~Isaiah 43:2 NASB

“Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. God and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” ~Matthew 28:18-20 WEB

[Jesus said,] “I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.” ~John 14:18 WEB

God is faithful to His Word.

25 Reasons to Leave Fear

Psalm 91 is a wonderful passage to memorize as it helps us stand against any and all fear. Psalm 91 gives us twenty-five reasons to refuse the spirit of fear and to leave fear far behind us. These truth highlights from Psalm 91 are both comforting and encouraging.

  3. He will cause the wicked to fall
  4. He will deliver us because we love Him
  5. We will dwell in the Most High’s shelter
  6. We will abide in the shadow of the Almighty
  7. He will cover us with Himself and gives us refuge
  8. His faithfulness is a shield and a wall to us
  9. We will not be afraid of night terrors
  10. We will not be afraid of day attacks
  11. We will not be afraid of pestilence at night
  12. We will not be afraid of destruction at noon
  13. We will not fall
  14. No evil will befall us
  15. No plague will come near us
  16. His angels will guard us and help keep us
  17. We will tread upon lions and cobras and trample them down
  18. He will deliver us because of His great love
  19. He will set us securely on high
  20. He will answer our call
  21. He will be with us in trouble
  22. He will rescue us and honor us
  23. He will give us a long life
  24. He will satisfy us
  25. He will let us see His salvation

Questions of God Leaving Us Alone

It is natural to feel alone during seasons of hardship, trials and suffering. I appreciate the poem Mary Stevenson wrote in 1936. She summarizes our feelings and the Lord’s perspective so well.

Footprints in the Sand

By Mary Stevenson (1936)

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.

Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.

Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,

Other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life,

When I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always.

But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life

There have only been one set of footprints in the sand.

Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?”

The Lord replied,

“The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,

Is when I carried you.”

Prayer

Lord, we desire to know these truths deep down in our heart. Thank you for setting us free from the spirit of fear. Thank you for setting us free by the power of Your Holy Spirit. We choose to walk in the freedom You purchased for us with Your Blood and by Your Name, Jesus. We choose to renew our minds with Your Word, to be transformed and conformed into Your image. Amen.

  1. I memorized Psalm 91 at the beginning of the pandemic. I’ve been so grateful for the comfort God has given me through these verses. It’s wonderful to know God will never leave us.

    1. Psalm 91 is such a comforting passage, Lisa. Our family learned this passage right before Y2K and it kept us from all the fear that many people were walking in regarding the turn-of-the-century and the power grid, etc.
