Astonishing Witness Knows a Thrilling Life

Astonishing Witness

A Witness for God

We are a witness for the Living God, and His Son, Jesus Christ.

“‘You are My witnesses,’ declares the Lord, ‘And My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me.’” ~Isaiah 43:10 NASB

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to Me [Jesus]…to the uttermost parts of the earth.” Acts 1:8 WEB

A Truthful Witness vs A False Witness

A truthful witness speaks truth, shows forth righteousness, and rescues lives. A false witness utters deceit, testifies falsely, betrays lives, and is likened unto a heavy sledgehammer, a sword and a sharp arrow to his neighbor.

“He who breathes out truth shows forth righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), but a false witness utters deceit.” ~Proverbs 12:17 AMPC

“A truthful witness rescues lives, but one who testifies falsely betrays them.” ~Proverbs 14:25 NET

“A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is like a heavy sledgehammer and a sword and a sharp arrow.” ~Proverbs 25:18 AMPC

A Witness in Prayer

Prayer and intercession allow us the opportunity to pray for others. When we pray, we partner with God for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. We bear witness in our spirit with the truth of God’s Word, His character, and His love. God bears witness to our love and affection for Him and His People.

“For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Good News of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers.” ~Romans 1:9 WEB

For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus [whose great love fills me]. And this I pray, that your love may abound more and more [displaying itself in greater depth] in real knowledge and in practical insight, so that you may learn to recognize and treasure what is excellent [identifying the best, and distinguishing moral differences], and that you may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ [actually living lives that lead others away from sin]; filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God [so that His glory may be both revealed and recognized]. Philippians 1:8-11 AMP

We have an astonishing opportunity to know the Living God, to witness and testify of His faithfulness, His love, and His mercy. Let us choose to be a truthful witness and refuse falsehood. Let us join the Lord in prayer and live a thrilling life of adventure with God!

  1. I have been told in my past days
    (with, I think, a kind intent
    which was truly meant as praise)
    that I am God’s blunt instrument.
    I have never been accused
    of having excess of smarts;
    longish words get me confused,
    and in school plays the speaking parts
    would go to kids who could recall
    most if not all of their lines;
    I’d just stand against the wall
    waiting for the seldom times
    when upon the scripted page
    “silent man walks ‘cross the stage.”

  2. “Let us choose to be a truthful witness and refuse falsehood.” May the words I speak always be truth, His truth. May they reflect the grace and mercy and faithfulness of the Lord to me. Merry Christmas, Lisa!

    1. Yes, Joanne, that’s all we really can do ‘to reflect his grace, mercy and faithfulness to us.’ May you and your family have a grace-filled Christmas, Joanne!

  3. Amen to all of the above! A false witness also creates the easy road, the bright glittery path, the wide-everyone-is-on-it way to success and power. So prevalent in our world today. God, help me be a faithful witness! (FMF#9)

  4. I’m not sure I will ever fully grasp and live the depth and breadth of God’s love – but I know it is more and more and more than I understand and do. I want to not just say, “I love” but to choose it, fight for it, and feel it like God does. “For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus [whose great love fills me]” – how I want that kind of love to be alive within!
