God Calls the Simple
The Lord chooses to use the simple, ordinary, even foolish things of the world to bring glory to His name.
“But God has selected [for His purpose] the foolish things of the world to shame the wise [revealing their ignorance], and God has selected [for His purpose] the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong [revealing their frailty].
God has selected [for His purpose] the insignificant (base) [simple] things of the world, and the things that are despised and treated with contempt, [even] the things that are nothing, so that He might reduce to nothing the things that are, so that no one may [be able to] boast in the presence of God.” ~1 Corinthians 1:27-29 AMP
The Lord can use our weakness to show His strength in and through us.
“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.
Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” ~2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NASB
Wisdom Calls to the Simple
It is simple, if we lack wisdom, we simply call out to the Lord, and He answers us.
“Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars. She cries from the highest places of the city: ‘Whoever is simple, let him turn in here! Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding.’” ~Proverbs 9:1, 3b, 4a, 6 WEB
Simple, yet challenging. If we need wisdom and understanding, we simply ask, seek, and knock.
“Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.” ~Matthew 7:7-8 WEB
The Lord is faithful to give, allow Himself to be found, and to open up wisdom’s door to us in response to our simple approach to Him. Thankfully, when we “draw near to God, He will draw near to us.” (James 4:8a NASB)
Let us respond to the Lord’s call and behold Him make the simple wise.

Every Friday, I join an online Christian writing community, Five Minute Friday. We are given a one-word prompt and write – unscripted, unedited, pure free-write – for 5 minutes. The prompt this week is simple.

Wisdom ain’t what I have got,
done a bunch of stupid things
’cause I never really thought
about the good that thinking brings.
It’s like a look before a leap,
like the due consideration
given ‘fore you say a peep
that can forestall friends’ alienation,
but all this stuff doth pass me by
except maybe in retrospect,
which often makes me want to try
to pause a bit, just to reflect
before jumping back into Dumb,
but dude, that really spoils the fun.
Aww yes, thinking can spoil the fun,
But it does save us from dumb;
Or from spoiling our relationship with friends,
But sometimes, even those must end.
For through life’s ebb and flow,
Really there is only one place to go;
For the Father, Holy Spirit and Son,
Call us to live with the Three in One.
Bravo, Lisa!
Thanks for the encouragement, Andrew!
so fun!
Thanks, Daisy!
I love how these word prompts cause us often to go google all the Scriptures on the topic and add so much richness to our lives, and often remind us of Scriptures we may have forgotten! Your #fmf neighbour 14
The Scripture that stood out to me today was: The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7
I too appreciate the richness of digging deep to find Biblical application to these word prompts, Elizabeth!
Lisa! thanks for sharing these thoughts! I love these verses and marvel many times that I get to participate in the kingdom of Christ not in spite of my simplicity, but because of it. I am made wise only through Him!
So true, Daisy, He is Wisdom!
I love that verse from James! I claim it all. the. time.
Drawing near and knowing that He will draw near to us is such a comfort, Anita!

I’m so glad you were inspired, Dee!
I was reminded today that we simply need to come to Him for wisdom and learning and transformation. We won’t find it anywhere else. Thanks for the reminders from His Word. Visiting from FMF #20 this week.
So true, Kath! He is the only True Source for Life!
