The Christmas Story read from Luke 2 is probably the most-read passage of Scripture during the Christmas season.
The Christmas Story tells of Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem, the birth of baby Jesus, the angels’ declaration to the shepherds, the shepherds visit to baby Jesus in the manger, the blessing of Simeon and the prophetess Anna.
Jesus Birth Story
After Jesus was born and lain in a manger, the angel of the Lord announced His birth to some nearby shepherds.
“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born to you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
“This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.’” ~Luke 2:10-14 NASB
The Greatest Story
The greatest story through all the ages is Jesus coming in the flesh to declare the truth of the Kingdom of God, to be the spotless Lamb for our sins through His death on the Cross, to conquer sin and death when He rose again.
“For in Him all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily, and in Him you are made full, Who is the head of all principality and power.” ~Colossians 2:9-10 WEB
“You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us.”
“He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the Cross. Having stripped the principalities and the powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” ~Colossians 2:13-15 WEB
Each of us choose how we will respond to the Christmas Story of Jesus birth, then respond to the Greatest Story ever told of His sinless life, death, and resurrection that we might be reconciled to God. Salvation is a beautiful gift purchased by Jesus for all who will believe and receive His gift of love.

Yes, it is the greatest story ever told, Heather!
I love the tie in of the Christmas story during Lent, Lisa. I have been meditating on that myself!
It is amazing how Christmas and Easter take us deep into His love, Donna.
We think we know A Christmas Story,
BB gun, shoot out your eye,
and all the while we miss the glory
of love that will not let us die.
We think we know the Christmas fable,
and call retell with some urging
of everyone in the stable
smiled upon by Round John Virgin.
We put up the Christmas tree,
angel dancing at the top,
then turn on big-screen TV,
and unto our couches flop,
thinking that we worship well
at the church of NFL.
I’m so glad we know the true meaning of the Christmas Story, Andrew! And the Easter Story too!
