Speak Lord; I’m Listening – Daily Bite-Size Encouragement – Day 29
The morning brings delight for what lay ahead. A new beginning. A fresh start. A blank canvas.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it. ~Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
Though Montgomery wrote about tomorrow being mistake free, I like to think of the morning as being fresh and waiting for us – like a blank canvas ready to be painted, the dawn is waiting for our touch of life to bring love and vitality to it.
Morning Light
The day dawns crisp and clear. The doves coo outside my window. Another day dawning, bringing new aspirations and opportunities for inspiration. What will today hold? There’s no fear.
With the outdoor world calling, I take my little Yorkie for a walk. The sunrise is peeking over the horizon. It’s going to be a gorgeous sunrise. Cool and crisp, the Texas wind is not for the faint of heart, but my little hat keeps my head warm. Rounding the corner, I see the sunrise with its beautiful display of pink and purple hues as it turns the black night sky into a beautiful blue. It’s going to be a good day with the Lord.
This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. ~Psalm 118:24 NASB
Light and Darkness
Hope. It’s what keeps us moving forward. Have you met anyone who was hopeless? They can’t see past the circumstances in front of them. The hopeless see only bleakness in the future.
In contrast, those who have hope look for the light to break forth into their darkness. The hopeful have an expectancy for “all things to work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to His purpose.”1
Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You. ~Psalm 139:12 NASB
No matter how dark the night, the morning breaks forth – promising light and a new beginning. We can look for His new mercies.
Mercies New Every Morning
Because each day (yesterday’s tomorrow) is a clean slate, we have the joy of painting a new creation on our blank canvas called today. If everything is going smoothly, it is an easy process for we can easily lean into the creative endeavor.
If there are challenges (health issues, relationship issues, financial issues), then we must ‘take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ’ Jesus and ‘renew our mind’ so that we are transformed into His image – bringing a reflection of His love and grace to all those who cross our path.2 When we know His mercies are new each morning, and we choose to rejoice and be glad in Him, then everything is brighter before us.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ~Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
Prayer
Lord, thank you for Your new mercies every morning. You abundantly provide for us each and every day. The lines have fallen in pleasant places and we are thankful for Your sweet Presence and for Your goodness to us today.
Lord, I pray that You would give us eyes to see and ears to hear that we may have Your perspective today. Thank you that You know when we rise up and when we sit down, You are intimately acquainted with all our ways. Thank you that your eyes roam to and fro throughout all the earth that You may strongly support those whose heart is completely Yours. Thank you for loving us and choosing us. We love You. Amen.
I discovered Audrey Assad’s ‘New Every Morning’ and thought you would enjoy it.

Great reminders. Looks like we both thought of Lamentations 3:22-23 when we did the FMF reflections today. Thanks for sharing! Wayne

I’m so thankful that He gently leads us, Terri. Thanks for visiting!
I love the Anne of Green Gables quote! Your post makes me look forward to mornings. I used to not, and honestly this morning I was tired and didn’t want to get up. But your post makes morning seem refreshing. I love the Scriptures you chose also. And your perspective on hope is so accurate. This week I was around a group of people that didn’t seem to have much hope. Hope does propel us on and gives an inner picture of what the future may look like! Thank you for your words! Have a great weekend.
Hope makes such a difference, Beth! Hopelessness is like a cancer that kills hope within us, we must guard our little seed of hope and water it so that it can grow and flourish. Our Hope-Giver is so Faithful!
I am so thankful that His mercies are new every morning!
Yes, Cindy! I’m so thankful for His new mercies. He is so kind to us!
Thank goodness for mornings! Morning and night are like seasons – eventually one ends giving dawn to a new season. 🙂
Yes, the morning and evening ebb and flow like Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. It’s a good analogy.
Lisa, you’ve shared one of my favorite verses today! Praise God for those daily blessings, divine mercies, often more than we asked or imagined …

He is so good to us, Paula!
Wow, we were really on the same wavelength in our interpretation of this week’s prompt.
I love sunrises–even though I’m not usually up early enough to see them. When I am though, it touches me in a way I have no words for.

Yes, He was kind to give us confirmation of what He was speaking to us, Sandra. His sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous!
