Speak Lord; I’m Listening – Daily Bite-Size Encouragement – Day 4
In a world shouting chaos, we desperately hunger for peace and comfort. I believe we can find an inner stillness today – in the middle of covid, vaccines, and economic uncertainty – we can find comfort that transcends what is happening around us.
God takes whatever challenges we are experiencing and turns them for our benefit. We find comfort in Him, then we turn and give support to others.
God Comforts Us
God has been faithful to meet me in every challenge, trial, and difficulty. Through His loving Presence and His Word, I can say that He “prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies,”1 and “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,”2 and “For it is the Lord our God Who goes with us; He will not fail us or forsake us.”3
God Comforts through People
When my brother died in a plane crash, many people surrounded our family and helped carry us through that difficult time. My dear friend, Connie, came to the house and sat with me. Her presence brought such deep comfort to me – I wasn’t alone. In that moment of turmoil, Connie brought stability, the essence of lasting friendship. It didn’t come through words; it came through her presence – just being there with me.
We Comfort Others
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God [Who is the Source] of every comfort (consolation and encouragement), who comforts (consoles and encourages) us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort (consolation and encouragement) with which we ourselves are comforted (consoled and encouraged) by God.”4
Because of His grace and mercy, we can turn and support others.
- We can help the hopeless find hope.
- We can guide the confused to a place of purpose, understanding, and clarity.
- We can give comfort to the grieving.
- We can lead those in chaos to the sanctuary of the Prince of Peace.
Just as I experienced the Lord’s comforting Presence and Connie’s friendship when my brother passed away, I can truthfully state that you too can find hope, love, and comfort in God.
If you need uplifting today, turn to God now, and He will meet you where you are. And if you need a friend, take a moment to let someone know so that they can be there for you.
