The Kingdom of God is not built on rules but on the very life of Jesus Christ flowing through us. Righteousness is not an external standard we strive to meet, but an inward reality of His love transforming our hearts.
The Kingdom of God is Righteousness
To live in His kingdom is to live in His presence. It is His righteousness that frees us because it is rooted in love.
For God’s Kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. ~Romans 14:17 WEB
Righteousness is not a moral performance but the life of God flowing through our surrendered hearts. It is the quiet, steady work of the Spirit of God manifested in our present reality with extraordinary grace.
What really counts in the kingdom of God is not dietary regulations but spiritual realities. The Kingdom of God is the sphere where God is acknowledged as Supreme Ruler.
In its inward reality, it includes only those who are born again. The subjects of the kingdom are characterized by lives of practical righteousness, by dispositions of peace and harmony, and by mind-sets of joy in the Holy Spirit. ~William MacDonald
The Kingdom of God is Christ within us expressed through us. It is not the future kingdom, but the present spiritual reign of God in our hearts.
Not the future kingdom, but the present spiritual kingdom, the reign of God in the heart, of which Jesus spoke so often. It is not found in externals like food and drink, but in spiritual qualities and graces. ~A. T. Robertson
When we live in righteousness, we become instruments tuned to the heart of God, and our lives begin to echo His goodness to those around us.
For the Kingdom of God – that is, true religion, does not consist in external observances. But in righteousness – the image of God stamped on the heart; the love of God and man, accompanied with the peace that passes all understanding, and joy in the Holy [Spirit]. ~John Wesley
The Kingdom of God is righteousness, and righteousness is Christ’s inward transformation of our hearts.

The Kingdom of God is Peace
Peace is not the absence of difficulties, but the presence of the Prince of Peace who sustains us through every challenge. Peace is the deep stillness that settles over our souls when God Himself dwells within our hearts.
For God’s Kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. ~Romans 14:17 WEB
Kingdom peace is rooted in the unchanging character of God. It is the same peace Jesus carried when the storms raged around Him, allowing Him to sleep in peace while the waves threatened to swallow the boat and everyone in it.
That same peace is now our inheritance. In Christ, striving ceases and fear loses its grip. We learn that peace is not something we achieve, but Someone we trust.
But the fruit of the Spirit is…peace. ~Galatians 5:22 WEB
Kingdom peace reshapes how we live. The Holy Spirit teaches us to respond rather than react, to rest rather than worry, to listen rather than defend or justify ourselves. Our lives become a testimony of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, living within us.
Peace is not passive; it is active. It takes courage to lay down anxiety and pick up confidence in God’s love and goodness. It requires the humility to release our own understanding and trust Him fully.
Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. ~Proverbs 3:5-6 AMPC
Kingdom peace is cultivated in our hearts and becomes an outward expression of our relationship with the Living God, the Prince of Peace.

The Kingdom of God is Joy
Joy comes when we recognize God’s love and goodness. Joy arises when we notice His fingerprints in the ordinary parts of our day, whether it is a rainbow after a violent storm, a bird singing in a tree, or a quiet pause where we sense His nearness. When we acknowledge His kindness, a deep, satisfying joy arises within us.
For God’s Kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. ~Romans 14:17 WEB
Kingdom joy is not blind to pain. It doesn’t pretend that life is easy. Sometimes joy is born from places of deep pain and sorrow. It’s when we meet God in the darkest places that we find that “In Him” there is light even in the darkness.
Where could I go from Your Spirit? Or where could I flee from Your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol (the place of the dead), behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning or dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, surely the darkness shall cover me and the night shall be [the only] light about me, even the darkness hides nothing from you, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to you. ~Psalm 139:7-12 AMPC
We discover that we are never alone. God strengthens us, helps us, and holds us steady.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. ~Isaiah 41:10 NASB
Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit living within us and is evidence of His life at work in our hearts.
The fruit of the Spirit is…joy. ~Galatians 5:22 WEB
This joy is based on God’s character of love, faithfulness, and unchanging nature. Our circumstances are always changing, but Jesus Christ remains the same.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. ~Hebrews 13:8 ~WEB
Kingdom joy does not deny pain and suffering. It quietly stands against despair. Joy is a quiet declaration that God’s love and faithfulness are greater than anything that we may face.

Prayer
Lord, we pray that the righteousness of Christ Jesus will be seen in us. Thank you for strengthening us to move from fleshly striving to a heart fully surrendered to You.
Lord, we honor You as the Prince of Peace. We draw near to You, knowing You faithfully draw near to us. Lord, we confess our weakness to follow the world into anxious thoughts, restlessness, and fear. Lord, we turn away from these spirits and turn toward You, the Living God.
Lord, we confess that darkness, pain, and suffering tempt us to feel alone. Lord, we acknowledge Your love and faithfulness to strengthen, help, and uphold us.
Lord, we thank You for revealing Your love through the beauty in creation, rest, and moments when Your Presence settles our hearts. Open our eyes to see Your goodness and kindness in the ordinary things throughout our day.
Root us and ground us in Your love, that we would not be distracted by what we eat or drink, but filled and overflowing with Your righteousness, peace, and joy. Amen.
Lord, we receive a fresh infilling of Your Holy Spirit. Empower us to walk in the fruit of peace, to stir up our faith, and to lean on You with trust. Thank you for the peace that passes all understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen.
Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, who empowers us to walk in joy above and beyond our circumstances. We choose to cultivate joy based on who You are, Your character, nature, and ways. Jesus Christ, You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, so we choose to trust You to lead us, comfort us, and counsel us. Amen.

Lisa, your statements on righteousness are powerful ones. Joining you in praying that His righteousness would be seen through my life. Righteousness >>> “It is the quiet, steady work of the Spirit of God manifested in our present reality with extraordinary grace.” Thank you for sharing this post!
I’m thankful that His righteousness covers us, Joanne.
Amen! This really caught my attention today: “What really counts in the kingdom of God is not dietary regulations but spiritual realities.” How easy it is to fall into focusing on our physical desires rather than our spiritual health!
So true, Lynn! It amazes me how easily we can become distracted. May the Lord strengthen us to run our race well.
Thanks for this timely encouragement. These truths minister to my heart and strengthen me. We’re trusting God for a home in America and I’m letting go of my plans and waiting patiently (in His peace) for His way and time. Thanks Lisa, bless you Sister xx
I’m so glad you were encouraged, Stephanie. May the Lord continue to guide your steps, guard your heart and mind with His peace, and bring forth favor for a home in America.
Cultivating peace, joy, and love – those are beautiful traits for everyone to have. What a world it would be if they doubled everywhere even for a day!
So true, Lisa!
So much solid, comforting truth in this post, Lisa. This, in particular, is something I had never considered before: “Peace is not passive; it is active. It takes courage to lay down anxiety and pick up confidence in God’s love and goodness.”
It does take courage to choose His peace, love, and goodness over anxiety and fear, Lois.
Wonderful insights, Lisa, about the kingdom of God. Isn’t it comforting and glorious to know: “when we meet God in the darkest places that we find “In Him” there is light even in the darkness.” Hallelujah!
It is wonderful, Nancy, that we are always in His light!
“Peace is not the absence of difficulties, but the presence of the Prince of Peace who sustains us through every challenge.” Amen, my friend! Your prayer refreshed my heart!
I’m thankful the Prince of Peace never leaves nor forsakes us, Maryleigh.
This >”The Kingdom of God is righteousness, and righteousness is Christ’s inward transformation of our hearts” How amazing and yes and Amen 🙏.
Thanks bunches for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends this month Sweet friend.
Praise the Lord for Christ’s inward transformation of our hearts, Paula!
