Audio Bible Reviews

NASB AMP

I hope you will take the opportunity to try audio Bibles. They are excellent resources and a great way to “read” multiple translations in a year.

Audio Bible Translations

Bible Amplified 300x300

Amplified Bible: Complete Old & New Testament by Promises for Life. Narrated by Steven B. Stevens. [82 hours 48 minutes] 5 stars.

Stevens does an outstanding job reading the complete Amplified Bible aloud. The books are not listed separately, but each book and chapter are unobtrusively announced at the beginning of each chapter. The AMP has 1,189 chapters. Stevens makes the AMP a pleasant listening experience.

Bible ESV 300x300

ESV Hear the Word Audio Bible by Crossway. Narrated by David Heath. [74 hours 37 minutes] 5 stars

Each book and chapter are listed, so it is easy to maneuver if you are trying to listen to a specific book in the Bible. There is no musical accompaniment; this is a pure reading of the Scriptures. Heath does a remarkable job narrating the ESV translation from Genesis to Revelation.

Bible NASB NT

NASB New Testament by Steven B. Stevens. Narrated by Steven B. Stevens. [16 hours 52 minutes] 5 stars.

Stevens’s excellence shines through in this reading of the New Testament in the NASB 1995 edition. Stevens is committed to reading the Word of God distinctly without sound effects or background music, a straightforward rendering of God’s Word. The books are not listed, but the books and chapters are quietly announced at the beginning of each chapter. There are 260 chapters. A marvelous NASB New Testament recording.

NASB

New American Standard Bible by Made for Success Inc. Dale McConanchie narrates the audiobook. [74 hours] 5 stars.

McConanchie does a tremendous job reading the NASB from Genesis to Revelation. There is no music; this is a pure reading of the Word of God done with excellence. This is a great resource for reading the NASB from beginning to end. Bible Passion NT

The Passion Translation: The NT with Psalms, Proverbs, and Song of Songs by Brian Simmons. Simmons narrates this audiobook. [36 hours 23 minutes] 5 stars.

Simmons reads the NT with instrumental music playing in the background. Simmons adds a historical summary before reading each new book in God’s Word. Simmons makes listening to the New Testament an enjoyable encounter.

Bible Stories

These stories are not word-for-word renderings of the Scriptures but are great resources for the life and message of Jesus Christ.

Bible Acts Your Story Hour

Acts of The Apostles (Dramatized) by Your Story Hour. Audiobook Narrated by Carole Pezet and Stanley Hill. [6 hours 29 minutes] 5 stars.

This wonderful dramatization of the Book of Acts brings the Bible alive. With its multiple voice actors, musical scores, and various sounds inserted to emphasize dramatic moments, Your Story Hour makes this an exciting, realistic, and engaging rendition of the Book of Acts. Great for young and old alike!

Life Of Jesus CD

Life of Jesus (Dramatized) by Your Story Hour. Narrated by Carole Pezet and Chet Damron. [10 hours 49 minutes] 5 stars.

Your Story Hour states, “Each 30-minute episode is professionally written, enacted, and produced complete with music and sound effects. The 26 episodes include Jesus’s birth, teachings, miracles, resurrection, and ascension. These recordings are non-doctrinal and inter-faith in nature.”

These are great faith-building, Scriptural dramatizations which are magnificent for the whole family.

I hope you will take the opportunity to try audio Bibles as they are great resources! You can pick your favorite Scripture translation and decide if you prefer with or without musical accompaniment. I enjoy alternating the translations and the reading performance styles, as each brings a “fresh listening experience” of God’s Word.

  1. Was the ESV your favorite? I would love to hear how they read about doing the offerings. I was surprised when I read them outloud (to make myself pay closer attention and not skim over the repetition) to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit fill my room. I wonder if hearing another read it outloud if it would have the same effect. Thank you for the reviews! That is a hard choice to make.

    1. I enjoy all of them, to be honest, Maryleigh. I collected the Bible versions through the years and enjoy my listening experience with each one.

  2. These are great resources Lisa. I don’t fare well with audio Bibles or books. It never fails that I always fall asleep. Then I’m like where was I. Lol. Though I do enjoy reading Scripture out loud .

Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful resources with Sweet Tea & Friends this month.

    1. I enjoy listening to the Bible at different times throughout the day, Paula, and it’s great to listen to it in your sleep too!

  3. Thank you for sharing your wonderful collection of audio bibles. I am trying to obtain the Amplified audio bible myself, but sadly the publisher has discontinued it. Would you be willing to sell it? When I checked eBay or Amazon, this valuable resource is no where to be found.

    1. I’m sorry that the Amplified Bible is no longer available on Amazon nor on Audible. The NASB and ESV are good alternatives.
