January’s Journey has me joining Jennifer from Overcome With Thankfulness who has taken over hosting “Share 4 Somethings” from Heather who was the originator and hostess for five years. The prompts will be the same each month: Something I Loved, Something I Read, Something I Learned & Something I Ate.
January’s Journey – Something I Loved
January’s Journey includes both my husband’s and my birthdays, we celebrated with a special meal and cake at home on our birthdays, then did a little getaway this past weekend. We enjoyed a quiet two days in front of a giant picture window overlooking a lake. January is the perfect month for quiet reflections and reading.
January’s Journey – Something I Read
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel was an amazing novel inspired by a true story from World War II. A librarian in the United States recognizes a book she hasn’t seen in over sixty years – since she was a French refugee helping the French resistance against the Nazi’s by forging documents for Jewish children fleeing to neutral Switzerland. A fascinating read of courage and the human spirit’s ability to overcome evil by retaining hope for a better future.
January’s Journey – Something I Learned
My Word of the Year is leadership, so I have been listening to audiobooks on humility. You can read what I have been learning this month here Humility is the Foundation of Leadership – Knowing Our Identity is Crucial – Strength with Dignity
One key nugget from Humble Roots – How Humility Grounds and Nourishes Your Soul by Hannah Anderson is,
“Humility is accurately understanding ourselves and our place in the world. Humility is knowing where we came from and who our people are. Humility is understanding that without God, we are nothing.”

January’s Journey – Something I Ate
I really enjoy catfish, but rarely have the opportunity to eat it. Yesterday, I enjoyed fresh catfish, hushpuppies, and curly fries. It was delicious!
God Bless You
As the Apostle Paul prayed, may you be encouraged, set apart and preserved until we meet Christ Jesus face-to-face.
“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~1 Thessalonians 5:23 NASB

I’m so glad you linked up with us this month for Share 4 Somethings, Lisa! Thank you for reading my blog and taking the time to leave a comment…I always appreciate that so much. Also, thanks for the compliment on my lipstick…I don’t know the exact color, but I bought a set of lipsticks on Amazon from the brand Qibest, and it’s one of the colors in that set. It’s a long lasting matte color, so I always put something like Chapstick or another creamier color on top, since it’s so dry. The set comes with several colors, and it’s very inexpensive! I have loved most of the colors, including the shade I was wearing in the picture you commented on.
Thanks again for linking up- have a great week!
Thanks, Jennifer, I’ll look into Qibest. Thanks for hosting Share Four Somethings and for commenting, I appreciate it!
Lovely post Lisa! You’ve had a busy month!
Blessings, Jennifer
Audiobooks are a great way to make progress in reading while my hands are busy cooking, cleaning, or folding laundry, Jennifer.
I’m not quite convinced with the catfish…but, oh my, hush puppies! Making my mouth water! Happiest birthday wishes to both of you. Here’s to a new year ahead filled with unexpected blessings!
Hush puppies are delicious, Jennifer! Thank you for the birthday wishes and blessings! May you have a blessed and peaceful 2023!
Lisa, Happy Birthday to the two of you 🎉. Those reads sound great and caught my attention. I’ve never had catfish but have always wanted to try it. I’m delighted that you got to have it.
Visiting today from Share Four Something’s #17
Thank you for the birthday wishes, Paula! I really enjoyed the two Christian reads, Paula!
I hope you both had great birthdays!! I love listening to audiobooks (I didn’t use to but do now!), it’s such a great way to get reading in while doing chores and such. Sounds like January was a good month and I hope February is as well 🙂
I really enjoy audiobooks, Cindy! They are enjoyable while doing indoor chores, outside gardening or while driving. I look forward to hearing about your wonderful family next month!
Happy Belated Birthday, Lisa! How fun that you and your husband got away for a weekend. 🙂 Just today, I was talking with a friend who mentioned Kristin Harmel. I’d never heard of her. I just put myself on the wait list to listen to the book you mentioned here. It sounds intriguing!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Jeanne! The Book of Lost Names is a different kind of WWII book, but I enjoyed its unique perspective.
Happy birthday to you and your hubby :). That looks like a really good book! I learned that camels have three sets of eyelids (there’s never a dull moment in teaching!). I hope you have a wonderful February, too!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Anita! I’m praying for you and Pedro as you walk this new road to healing.
Happy Birthday to you both! It sounds like January was an enjoyable month in many ways! Now onto February 🙂
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Joanne! And thank you for the post highlight today!
Beautiful month, Lisa! Happy belated birthday to you!! What an extraordinary way to enjoy your birthdays! Both books look interesting, and great start with your one-word leadership! I’m not much for catfish, but so glad you got to enjoy a favorite!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Donna! Yes, we are off to a good start as we head into our second month of 2023.
Happy birthday to you and your husband, Lisa. Your getaway sounds wonderful! And what a great word for 2023. 🙂
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Lois! Leadership has been a challenging WOTY for January, but I trust the Lord will continue to lead me.
Lisa, happy birthday. Cake at home and a weekend getaway sound sublime. May the year ahead be one of beauty and adventure and hope.
Thank you for the birthday wishes, Linda!
Wow, I never knew people ate catfish! New here, might join in on the hop!
I grew up with my grandaddy catching, then cooking his catfish, Melissa, but it is rare to find catfish in restaurants these days. We happened to be near a lake, so the nearby restaurant had some for sale and it was delicious! I’m so glad you found the Share Four Somethings and hope you will join us!
